My main interest in ham radio is building simple rigs or test equipment and operating CW, usually at one watt or less. I prefer initiating QSO's by calling CQ and never cease to be amazed by the fact that when conditions are favorable I can get a response from most anywhere.
Pictured is a portable station I built in a lunchbox a number of years ago. I probably had more contacts and more fun with it than with anything I've built, but I eventually sold it after building a better-performing Norcal 40A station in a small toolbox.
